Say Samal said in the second round table dialogue held by the East Asian Sea Environmental Management Partnership (PEMSEA) that he hopes to turn Westport into a “blue economic center” in order to ensure the sustainable development of Westport. Cambodia is a member of this organization.

He said: “We are working hard to build our blue economy to make it more sustainable, fair and recoverable.”

He said: “There is no doubt that the marine blue economy is an important driving force for economic growth and progress. In Cambodia, the marine economy mainly relies on fisheries, ports and shipping activities, and coastal and marine tourism.”

He said that Westport is undergoing extensive improvements, including improving roads, improving railway services, upgrading and upgrading the seaport, ensuring clean and safe water supply, and improving wastewater treatment. Although the epidemic will affect the speed of Cambodia’s development, the Cambodian government is still committed to implementing environmental protection measures to achieve the United Nations sustainable development goals.

He added that Cambodia’s current ocean concerns include climate change, biodiversity loss and ocean pollution.

After Samal delivered the opening speech, Ambassador Peter Thomson, the United Nations Special Envoy for Ocean Issues, outlined the severe situation of marine protection in the region.
