Background
The role of blue carbon in climate change mitigation and adaptation has now reached international prominence. Extensive blue carbon studies are helping policy-makers clarify the role and value of coastal resources in carbon sequestration and provide nature-based solutions to climate change challenges. To promote knowledge and experience sharing on blue carbon science and policy and facilitate international cooperation in this regard under the PEMSEA framework, the 2021 International Conference of Blue Carbon was organized as an event of the EAS Congress 2021 and World Ocean Week in Xiamen (XWOW) 2021.
